The Keep Me Safe entries will be judged by celebrated children’s illustrator Nick East. As well as judging, Nick will work with the winning children to prepare their posters if necessary and will provide a series of top tips for kids to help them get involved.
He says: “Children see things so clearly, in a way that adults don’t, which makes the idea of getting them to come up with a safety poster an inspired one. The message is simple, but the possibilities are wide open for the children to get creative. I look forward to seeing the entries when they come in.”
For many years Nick worked as a museum and exhibition designer on exciting projects including London Science Museum, Lego Theme Park Windsor and the Eureka Museum for Children. This experience inspired him to specialise in designing and storytelling for children. Combined with his love of drawing and illustrating, children’s books just made sense.
Nick East is now a best selling children’s book illustrator who has been shortlisted for the English Picture Book awards, long-listed for The Evening Standard’s Oscar’s First Book Prize and illustrated the successful Goodnight series.
One of his many picture books include Goodnight Spaceman – produced in conduction with the amazing ESA astronaut Tim Peak.
Nick is currently working on a series of young fiction novels ’Toto the Ninja Cat’ with TV and radio personality Dermot O’Leary.
He lives near York with his wife and two children and when he isn’t drawing he is out riding bikes, playing in dad folk/punk band ‘Goujons of Woof’ and spending time with his family.
